For those who can still venture out into their communities, we serve in gathering places, such as senior centers and community facilities. Generally programs serve adults 60 and over, although age requirements can vary by program and areas served. People who are mobile enough to join others for meals in a group setting where seniors congregate, like senior centers and cafes, are encouraged to do so; while others less mobile may qualify for home delivery.
These can include pet food delivery for clients' pets, home repair services, telephone reassurance and transportation services for doctor appointments and other needs. Some programs offer meals to meet special dietary needs, cultural or ethnic preferences, and other programs serve fruits and vegetables right out of their own gardens!
Additional services may also include emergency meals for bad weather days and hospital discharge programs that are proven to reduce readmissions. Contact your local program to see what's available in your area. Some programs may additionally require a referral letter from a doctor or social worker.

Our delivery teams hand-deliver your bill near the first day of the month along with your meal. Another delivery team picks up your payment that same week. Monthly bills can also be mailed to someone who writes your checks and they can mail your payment back to us.
As long as there are no changes that affect your eligibility, you can continue to receive the service. We also provide a short-term service to persons temporarily disabled and are recuperating.
However, once you are able to cook for yourself or receive assistance with meals, you are taken off the program. Vincent Meals on Wheels of Los Angeles cooks and packages the food in their kitchen and delivers to us. Most clients receive the same meals. Special diets for specific medical conditions can often be accommodated.
A volunteer Board of Directors meets every other month to set policy and oversee operations. They hire the staff to supervise the office and meal delivery operations. These part-time paid staff members direct over dedicated volunteers. Volunteering is simple and very rewarding. Whether you are available one hour a week or once per month, we can find ways to help you meet your volunteer needs and goals.
We will try to match you with a variety of volunteer jobs. See application , driver instructions. Between one and two hours. All routes are arranged so that it takes a little over an hour to deliver the 10 to 14 meals in a specific area of Torrance or Lomita.
If for any reason you need to cancel your meal, please advise us no later than 8. Insufficient notice will incur the normal meal charge.
Townsville residents who because of age or disability are unable to prepare their own meals. The service is also available for the carers of these people.
